Green Lipped Mussel Powder

This is rich in Chondroitin, Omega 3 & Glycosaminoglycan. Very important in maintaining healthy connective tissue & cartilage structure. This powder is also used in dog chews to relieve joint pain in older dogs. Humans also take it to prevent/relieve Osteoarthritis pain. It has a pungent smell & is also used as an 'attractor' ingredient in fishing.

This product is imported from New Zealand where it is processed in such a way not to damage Omega 3 & Glycosaminoglycan properties. Being a fine powder this can be mixed into fry powders or made up into a paste with foods such as the Red Astax Crumb found on the 'Granule Foods' page.

Betain

Betain is usually extracted from sugar beet, spinach, cereal grains, wine & seafoods - not a nasty chemical product. It is well known as being an attractor for fish. Fishermen know the product well as it attracts fish in a swim to the bait. Some of the foods on this site contain betaine such as the top quality Japanese food Otohime.

For human use it is used to help prevent heart disease & strokes. Also great benefits have been found in reducing the fat deposits in the liver. This is important in fish as (in guppies particularly) pale marks can appear on the body to show a poor liver function. Feeding vitamins B6 & B12, along with folic acid in conjunction with betaine improve the livers health & help to reduce fat deposits.

It is an aid to digestion & promotes appetite.

Mix ratio is only 1% of the volume you feed, or 1 grm to 100grm of feed. Fishermen can boost this to 20 grm per kilo as a bait additive.

Astaxanthin Powder
A highly concentrated fine powder which can be mixed with other foods to make up a paste. The Red Granular Crumb foods on this site (under 'dried foods' ) are mixed with Astaxanthin to give it the rich colour it has. It is regarded as one of the more powerful caratenoids.

Astaxanthin is produced by the micro algae Haematococcus pluvialis. This product is processed from algae farmed in Hawaii & is considered to be the best in the world. Commercial dose rate 5 kg per metric ton. This equates down to 5 parts per thousand or 5:1000. 5 grms is sufficient to add to 1 kg of feed. This pack will make up to 10 kgs of feed.

This food is a powerful anti-oxidant. One comprehensive study found astaxanthin to be 10 times as effective as beta-carotene (and approx 100 times more effective than vitamin E) (Di Mascio et al . 1991).
